Pokhara Buddhist Meditation Centre was started in 1993 to provide a peaceful place to present, study and contemplate on Tibetan Buddhist teachings.
The centre offers courses on:
- Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, which develops the mind by teaching compassion and wisdom, and helping to understand why things happen
- Meditation relaxes the mind and makes it peaceful. From tranquillity comes clarity and greater concentration.
- Yoga and Reiki relax and balance body and mind.
This is an FPMT centre. FPMT (Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition) is a worldwide organisation of over 160 centres, projects and services under the spiritual direction of Lama Zopa Rinpoche.
Pokhara Buddhist Meditation Centre also has the name Ganden Yiga Chozin meaning “Pure Land of Maitreya Buddha”.
Once Maitreya becomes a Buddha, he will rule over the Ketumati Pure Land, an earthly paradise.
The quality of everything we do: our physical actions, our verbal actions, and even our mental actions, depends on our motivation. That’s why it’s important for us to examine our motivation in our day to day life. If we cultivate respect for others and our motivation is sincere, if we develop a genuine concern for others’ well-being, then all our actions will be positive.
