Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. It was developed by a Japanese monk, Mikao Usui, at the beginning of the last century, and has since has been adapted by various teachers all over the world.
Reiki is a holistic therapy for self-healing and supporting others on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. By “laying on hands” a universal “life force energy” is transferred through the palms, allowing relaxation and creates a state of equilibrium.
5 reiki principles:
- Just for today, I will not be angry
- Just for today, I will not worry
- Just for today, I will be grateful
- Just for today, I will do my work honestly
- Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing
Lama Lhundrup, then Abbot of Kopan Monastery, said: “People are often so involved with their work and themselves that their hearts are closed. Reiki is a wonderful way for them to start caring for others and to open their hearts. Buddhist energies are stronger but are best used, when the heart is open.”
